Since my brief working vacation in Hawaii (see my twitterfeed for select snaps!), I’ve traded in surfing on a pink funboard rental for surfing the web. Stretch out your index finger; here are some gems I think are worth checking out.
The most played game of this year may or may not be the game you think. I was a little surprised when I read this, but then again not. And no, it’s not Angry Birds OR Call of Duty and has only been around for about a month. Color me impressed. (via CNET)
Broken boards, dislocated shoulders and a guy named John John. I was in a great mood yesterday and that probably has something to do with the few morning/early afternoon hours I sat glued to my computer screen watching the live webcast of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing’s last leg of competition, the Billabong Pipe Masters. Whether you can shred in the water or barely swim, there is an unparalleled awe that comes with being in the presence of North Shore waves even through a computer screen. In real life, they’re simply overwhelming. And yesterday, a few pro surfers were physically overwhelmed by Pipeline’s aqua beasts, suffering injuries, broken boards and maybe some broken egos. And for more surfing-related web goodness. This. (via Gizmodo)
Are bloggers journalists? A federal judge in Oregon says “no.” (via Huffington Post)
I admire his honesty, courage. This is the story of Lauren and Mike, and how they went on a date once. Apparently, Lauren wasn’t feeling it but Mike was (or thought she was at least because of her National Geographic documentary-esque physical cues), so when Lauren ignored his texts and calls, he did what any modern dater with WiFi would do: Google her age and email address and write a 1,000+ word message about why she should call him back already. And like a modern dater would, she posted it on Reddit. (via Huffington Post)
My birthday is next month and I think I’ve found the cake for it! (via Geekosystem)
